“The challenges are many and great; The Men are few but greater.” ~ Frederick Simon

July 30, 2018

Welcome to the EWG Railroad and thank you for stopping by!

What was begun must be finished.

For eleven years EWG has operated the CW Branch and Geiger Spur efficiently through the safety of operations while building on its impeccable reputation of outstanding customer service. EWG values its customer relationships and strives to provide efficient transportation services, meeting and exceeding customer expectations.

During its history, EWG has spent over and above its means to provide outstanding service as well as maintain the track and improve the physical plant to the extent economically possible. EWG, its governmental partners, and customers have worked together on numerous track maintenance, construction, and rehabilitation projects with great success. The 2015 Connecting Washington funding package will invest approx. $11M in the CW Branch for track rehabilitation over a period of 14 years, which started in July 2017.

EWG works proactively with BNSF, its Class 1 partner, removing barriers that could inhibit commerce, making both the CW Branch and Geiger Spur more attractive business locations. EWG has worked with BNSF to develop innovative methods of operation that fit BNSF’s current and prospective business models. EWG is an integral partner in the SIA industrial park expansion by providing fluid transportations services. EWG prides itself on its ability to individually and collectively work cooperatively with federal and state regulatory agencies and has developed an excellent, on-going relationship with regulators, specifically the FRA and Washington UTC.

Our accomplishment-oriented employees are passionate in their efforts to serve our customers, enabling growth and opportunity. Despite the known economic and operational challenges, some quite extreme – poor crop yield, inclement weather, deficient track structure, and insufficient maintenance resources – we have overcome, we have improvised, we have adapted.

Moreover, we have implemented bold actions that are decisively changing the direction and thereby the future of the EWG, the CW Branch, and the Geiger Spur. We, the EWG, as a close-knit company of passionate – railroaders at heart – professionals, each with a vested interest in the continuing success of the CW and Geiger, remain fully committed to the mission of success.

Through intensive collaborative efforts, both EWG and its governmental partners have endeavored to market both the CW Branch and Geiger Spur, as attractive logistic solutions. These on-going efforts include sourcing of much-needed funding to enhance the CW Branch physical plant.

EWG intimately understands the nuances of both rail lines exclusively. Thus, we are exceptionally situated and committed to writing the next chapter in the CW Branch’s and Geiger Spur’s histories. It is highly likely that the CW Branch will eventually be in part, repurposed into a carrier of economically viable non-grain commodities terminating and originating online. Through affirmative maintenance and upgrading, EWG will accomplish these goals in support of continued customer service and expansion on both the CW Branch and Geiger Spur.

Indeed, and in-deed, the CW Branch is an investment made in good faith by and for the people of Washington State. An investment, like any other investment, that must be protected and grown to produce dividends for the investors – the people.

What was begun will be finished.

Respectfully,
Donald Purdie, President
EWG Railroad
